Rio de Janeiro (15 June 2014) – Since the start of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil, five Argentinian citizens with records of violent behavior during soccer matches have been denied entrance into Brazil.

The government published a resolution banning the entry of persons whose names are included in the National Security Entry-Exit System on Tuesday (10 June 2014). These foreigners, classified as “fans involved in violent acts in soccer stadiums,” cannot enter Brazil during the World Cup.

Since 9 June, two Argentinian citizens were intercepted by the federal police in Rio de Janeiro, another two in Foz do Iguaçu, and the fifth in Guarulhos, São Paulo.

The measure is enforced by public servants in charge of border control and migration surveillance activities in ports, international airports and migration monitoring facilities throughout the Brazilian territory.

The resolution signed by Minister of Justice José Eduardo Cardozo will remain in effect until the end of the World Cup.
