Nearly 80,000 Passengers Visit Brazil’s Airport Fun Zones During First Week of World Cup
Rio de Janeiro (20 June 2014) - Free Wi-Fi, video games, vending machines, ATMs and live broadcasts of World Cup matches are among the amenities that have attracted significant numbers of passengers to airport Fun Zones, which are lounges available at 12 airports in ten of the host cities for the FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014.
A partnership between Brazil's National Airport Infrastucture Company (Infraero) and Caixa Econômica Federal, the project is a success among foreign and domestic travelers: 77,500 passengers have visited the Fun Zones throughout the country in their first week of operation (10 - 17 June). The Fun Zones at Salgado Filho (Porto Alegre), Afonso Pena (Curitiba), Congonhas (São Paulo) and Galeão (Rio de Janeiro) airports have received the most visitors. According to Infraero, the average visitors are males between the ages of 25 and 34, who come in groups with friends.
For journalists, the Secretariat for Social Communication of the Presidency of the Republic of Brazil, with support from Infraero, has set up a team of media advisers in each of the lounges to provide materials and guidance on the host cities and the country.
In addition to the amenities and entertainment, each Fun Zone allows visitors to check-in online and track their flight schedule. Chargers for mobile phones and laptops are also available. Access to the Fun Zones is free.
