Rio de Janeiro (24 June 2014) - The João Saldanha Open Media Centre invites journalists to join a press tour to the Petrobras Research and Development Center (Cenpes) next Monday, 30 June 2014. The group of attending journalists will leave the Copacabana Fort at 8:00 am, and the trip is scheduled to return at 12:00 pm.

The Cenpes includes more than 200 laboratories — their technologies equip Petrobras to be among the world’s leaders in deep-water offshore oil exploration and as the first country in the world to explore the pre-salt layer. With that innovation, Petrobras was the only one of the major enterprises in the industry to increase oil production in the last six years. Already the leader in Brazil’s oil sector, the company aims to be among the top five global companies in the sector by 2030.

During the press tour of the Cenpes, journalists will become familiar with some of the laboratories that experiment with the use of different technologies, including:

Core Laboratory – The laboratory where the rock samples collected during exploratory drilling of sedimentary basins (called "core" in technical jargon) are geologically analyzed in detail.

BSR Project – Innovative system that improves the usage of the platforms installed in ultra-deep waters.

Water Alternating Gas (WAG) Laboratory – The WAG is Cenpes' newest lab. It is dedicated to applied research and technical assistance to increase production and prevent greenhouse gases from escaping into the atmosphere.

To confirm your participation in the press tour, please contact the email, with your full name, ID number (RG, RNE or passport) and telephone number. Availability for the tour is limited.
