The first week of the Open Media Centre starts with Rio governor, mayor and ministers

The Open Media Centre (OMC) in Rio de Janeiro will be inaugurated by the Brazilian government on Monday, 9 June, with a press conference featuring Governor of Rio de Janeiro Luiz Fernando Pezão, Mayor of Rio de Janeiro Eduardo Paes, Sport Minister Aldo Rebelo, Social Communication Secretariat Minister Thomas Traumann, and Culture Minister Marta Suplicy. The Brazilian Agency for the Promotion of Exports and Investment (Apex-Brasil) President Maurício Borges and other authorities will also be present at the opening ceremony of the OMC in Rio.

Between June 9 and July 14, the OMC in Rio will offer journalists covering the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil a program of interest to the media such as press conferences, discussion panels and guided visits to significant projects. FIFA Media Centre briefings, as well as the Cup matches, can be followed on a daily basis on TV sets available at the OMC.

Monday – 9 June 2014:

2:45 pm – Presentation of OMC operation

3:00 pm – Press conference with the Governor of Rio de Janeiro Luiz Fernando Pezão, Mayor of Rio de Janeiro Eduardo Paes, Sport Minister Aldo Rebelo, Social Communication Secretariat Minister Thomas Traumann and Culture Minister Marta Suplicy.

Subject: Preparations for the official opening of the World Cup and the role of different governmental bodies during the tournament.

4:00 pm – Welcoming cocktail.

Tuesday –10 June 2014:

11:00 am – Press conference with Chief of the Joint Staff of the Armed Forces General José Carlos De Nardi, Head of the Special Secretariat for Security of Major Events (SESGE) Andrei Rodrigues, General Manager for Security of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC/COL) Hilário Medeiros, and FIFA security adviser for the World Cup Andre Pruis.

Subject: Planning of national security during the World Cup under the coordination of the Armed Forces and SESGE. The security forces of the federal government and of the 12 states of the Federation with host cities have organized an integrated system of command and control with a round-the-clock monitoring scheme.

2:00 pm – Riotur Press Tour – Sugar Loaf

3:00 pm – Press conference with Mayor of Rio de Janeiro Eduardo Paes.

Subject: Rio and the World Cup.

Wednesday – 11 June 2014:

10:00 am to 12:00 noon – Morar Carioca Verde press tour organized by Riotur (the Rio de Janeiro Town Hall tourism company).  This visit will take journalists interested in learning about a project in the Babilônia and Chapéu Mangueira favelas (low-income communities) in Leme, in the South Zone of the city of Rio de Janeiro, with environmentally-friendly buildings under construction, and sun porches and decks made of recyclable materials.

2:00 pm – Riotur Press Tour – Corcovado mountain / Christ the Redeemer

Thursday – 12 June 2014:

Normal activities at the OMC - no events are scheduled

Friday – 13 June 2014:

10:00 am – Riotur Press Tour – Stand-up Paddling in Copacabana

12:00 noon – Panel: “Commercial Promotion of Brazil during the World Cup”.

President of the Brazilian Agency for the Promotion of Exports and Investment (Apex-Brasil) Maurício Borges will speak about the World Cup Project. Sponsored by Apex, the project has attracted 2,300 customers, investors and opinion-makers from 104 countries, to participate in business agendas in Brazil during the tournament. The project was developed in partnership with 700 companies and entities representing Brazilian business sectors.

2:00 pm – Press conference with authorities from Rio de Janeiro City Hall on the city´s logistics plan during the World Cup.

5:30 pm – Tasting of Brazilian sparkling wines promoted by Apex

Saturday – 14 June 2014:

10 am – Riotur Press Tour – Bodyboarding training class in Barra da Tijuca

Sunday – 15 June 2015:

Normal activities at the OMC - no events are scheduled
