Two new platforms are part of production development phase one for Guará-Norte and Cernambi
As the operator of Blocks BMS-11 and BMS-9, Petrobras has announced the approval of the decision to charter two new floating production, storage and offloading platforms (FPSO) for the Guará-Norte area and Cernambi field (formerly known as the Iracema area) in the Santos Basin. Each FPSO has an oil production capacity of up to 150,000 bpd, and gas output of 8 million m3/day. The two FPSOs are expected come online in 2014, although they were originally scheduled to start operations after 2014.
These two new platforms are part of production development phase one for Guará-Norte (BMS-09) and Cernambi (BMS-11). The strategic decision to charter the FPSOs was made by the consortiums to bring forward production start-up in these areas, based on the excellent flow test results initially obtained.
The Company expects the unit conversion and module building projects to go ahead in Brazil. The target is to achieve more than 65% use of domestic resources in the projects to build the units.
The consortium responsible for the BMS-9 Block brings together Petrobras (principal with a 45% stake), BG Group (30%), and Repsol Brasil S.A. (25%). The consortium for the BMS-11 block is also headed by Petrobras (65%), in partnership with BG Group (25%), and Galp Energia (10%).
