Brazil turns crisis into opportunity, evaluates Dilma

In a message aired today (2), the President Dilma Rousseff has assessed that 2011 was a good year and that the country is entering an era of prosperity. "With the right planning and policies, we are able to protect our economy, our productive sectors and, especially, the employment of Brazilians. We are transforming a moment of crisis in a moment of opportunity and entering a new era, an era of prosperity," she said during her weekly radio chat, Coffee with the President.

Dilma pointed out that, in the year in which almost every country in the world have lost jobs, Brazil has created more than 2 million jobs, in addition to registering growth with low inflation and descendant interest rates, income distribution and reduction of social inequalities.

On the perspectives for the commencing period, the President mentioned that 2012 should be a landmark of consolidation for the Brazilian model of governance. According to her, the year is to begin with less taxes for more than 5 million small businesses and micro entrepreneurs, which will have easier access to credit at lower interest rates.

Another point highlighted during the program is that, until 2014, the Caixa Econômica Federal and Banco do Brasil must make investments of more than R$ 125 billion in the program Minha Casa Minha Vida (My house, my life). So far, 341 thousand new houses are under contract, 400 thousand were delivered and 500 thousand are in the works.
