The Brazilian Foreign Minister, Antonio Patriota said on Thursday (April 19/2012) that Brazil and Uruguay are discussing a new integration model. He said that the meeting between President Rousseff and President José Mujica at the Presidential Palace was a "historic opportunity" to advance the integration of energy and supply chains.

"It was a meeting focused on what both leaders consider to be a historic opportunity, to develop a new model for integration between Brazil and Uruguay. A historic opportunity for the achievements made in political discussion and also for the degree of integration in projects that allow look to the future with a greater level of ambition", said the Minister.

Now the expectation is to expand bilateral cooperation in the areas of technology and innovation, and to strengthen supply chain integration, especially in the shipbuilding industry. "President Rousseff wants to make cooperation in this sector a key issue", explained the Minister.

According to Minister Patriota , energy integration should gain new impetus with the construction of the electricity transmission line linking Candiota in Rio Grande do Sul to Montevideo, and with the implementation of wind power projects on Uruguayan soil, set to generate 300 Megawatts.
