As from this year, the Brazilian Institute of Tourism (Embratur) is increasing efforts to promote the country abroad, seeking to attract foreign tourists, mainly due to large multi-sport events that will occur until 2016, as the Confederations Cup, the FIFA World Cup and the Olympics. It is estimated that, in 2014, the year of the Cup, 7.2 million tourists should visit the country. Last year, Brazil received 5.433 million foreigners.
The President of Embratur, Flávio Dino, highlights that the promotion of Brazil is planned to take place in 25 international fairs this year. "Those are events where exhibitors bring their products to be sold in the tourist industry of other countries, so Brazil makes presence to support the marketing of domestic tourism."
Along with the Ministry of Tourism, Embratur will also participate in 14 events in 13 markets, in addition to other actions through partnerships developed with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE) and with the Brazilian Agency for Promotion of Exports and Investments (Apex-Brazil). Embratur supports MRE financially in cultural promotions abroad, passing on resources to embassies, according to Flávio Dino. Advertising campaigns and the use of digital media as vehicles for disseminating are also featured on the Institute's routine, which was formerly called Empresa Brasileira de Turismo.
