Security for the Rio+20 Conference will involve 15,000 trained professionals

A group of 15,000 trained professionals will be responsible for security at the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20), to be held in Rio de Janeiro from June 13 to June 22.
Of the total contingent, some 8,000 are military personnel from the Armed Forces - Navy, Army and Air Force - who will be responsible for protecting 114 Heads of State as well as security at event locations, including Riocentro and Aterro do Flamengo, as well as hotels, ports and airports in Rio de Janeiro.
The Eastern Military Commander, Gen. Adriano Pereira Junior, who is responsible for coordinating the entire process during the United Nations event, presented details of the plan on Monday to the Defense Minister, Celso Amorim.
According to the plan, of the 114 foreign delegations confirmed so far 21 received a high risk rating and will be given in strengthened security. Another 40 are medium risk and 53 are low risk. It is expected that there will be participation by representatives from 120 countries.
