The Ministry of Cities will have R$ 721 million to invest in equipment purchase to stimulate growth in Brazil

The Ministry of Cities will invest R$ 721 million in the purchase of new equipment in the field of urban mobility through a new Federal Government program launched yesterday by President Dilma Rousseff. PAC Equipment is an initiative that aims to stimulate the country's economic growth. In total R$ 8.4 billion will be invested.

The Ministry's resources are to be divided between the Urban Trains Company in Porto Alegre (Trensurb), with R$ 260 million for the purchase of ten new trains in Porto Alegre, and R$ 461 million for CBTU for the acquisition of twelve LVTs with three units each, two locomotives for Natal, eight LVTs of three units each for João Pessoa and ten new trains of four carriages each for Belo Horizonte.

The measure seeks to stimulate the economy, which is currently passing through a period of crisis and is affecting growth in various countries across the world. The purchases will help transform Brazilian industry and will allow the provision of improved quality in public services. According to President Dilma Rousseff, the government procurement policy is an affirmation that the country has the mechanisms to confront the crisis. The acquisition of new trains is a way to stimulate investment and consumption in the sector, as well as improving public transport for the population.
