The Central Bank of Brazil will launch, in August this year, two commemorative coins as a tribute to the delivery of the Olympic flag to Brazil. This release is the result of the joint work between the Central Bank of Brazil, the Mint and the Organizing Committee for the 2016 Rio Olympic and Paralympics Games.
A special R$ 1 bimetallic coin will be released, which brings in its obverse, in the silver center, the inscription "Brazil" with the logo of the 2016 Games and, in the center of the composition, the Olympic flag. In the golden ring the inscriptions "Delivery of the Olympic flag" and "London 2012-Rio 2016" are written. From the 2,016,000 coins to be produced, one part will be sold in special packaging for collecting purposes and the rest will be put into circulation through the banking network.
A commemorative silver coin will also be produced, with a face value of R$ 5, and an initial print run of 5,000 pieces. In its obverse, the Olympic flag is at the center of the composition, which is completed with the inscription "Delivery of the Olympic flag" and the logo of the 2016 Rio Games. On the reverse, an illustration referring to the two icons of the Olympic cities is highlighted: the Tower Bridge, representing London, and Christ the Redeemer, representing the city of Rio de Janeiro. Rounding out the composition is the face value and the inscription "London 2012-Rio 2016" and "Brazil".
