The Minister of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade, Fernando Pimentel, said today in Sorocaba (SP) at the opening of the Toyota car factory that this was "was a celebration of the strength of the Brazilian economy".

"This is a concrete response to those who think the crisis will have a large impact on Brazil and curb the growth of income and employment", he said.

Referring to the fourth unit announced by the Japanese automaker, which is expected to become operational in 2015, Pimentel said that "Brazil will remain a safe haven for those who want to invest and create wealth". The Minister was representing the President of the Republic, Dilma Rousseff at the ceremony, which was attended by the Governor of the State of São Paulo, Geraldo Alckmin, and the President of Toyota Motor Corporation, Akio Toyoda.

The plant inaugurated today is the Japanese automaker's third plant in Brazil. The investment of US$ 600 million in the Sorocaba unit will allow the fabrication of compact cars and should generate 1,500 direct jobs, according to the automaker.
