AIG: duties and objectives

The Media Relations Office (AIG) at the Foreign Ministry’s main aims and attributes are:

1. To organize articulation between the Ministry and media and communications companies 
2. To assist, in conjunction with the President’s AIG, press coverage of presidential trips abroad
3. To support the press during trips by the Foreign Trade Minister in Brazil and abroad
4. To support foreign journalists accompanying their heads of state on official visits to Brazil
5. To coordinate visits by foreign journalists who are interested in writing about, filming or making television programs about Brazil
6. To take care of the accreditation of Brazilian journalists
7. To publish and disseminate material related to the Ministry’s operational area
8. To release official announcements and positions to the press from the Ministry on foreign policy issues
9. The AIG’s media advisor also acts as spokesperson for the Minister of State

The AIG also has a Foreign Press Support Centre (CAEI), which aims to:

1. Make arrangements for the accreditation of foreign press correspondents with the Foreign Ministry
2. Facilitate contact between the foreign press, the Foreign Ministry, and the federal, state and municipal authorities, as well as helping foreign correspondents to obtain information of interest to them
3. Provide relevant information on the Brazilian foreign policy
4. Make public the material reality and the Brazilian offering prepared by the Brazilian Foreign Ministry and other government offices on matters of great interest to journalists
5. Hold talks on foreign policy issues
6. Advise foreign correspondents on the procedures required in order to perform their duties in the country
7. Promote and disseminate foreign policy issues and issues from other sectors of the administration, according to the interests of the foreign correspondents
