Foreign correspondent registration

For journalists to register at the Foreign Ministry, the international company must make a written application on letterhead paper. This document must contain a declaration of formal employment abroad and of responsibility for paying the employee’s salary.

It must be sent to:

Assessoria de Imprensa do Gabinete
Ministério das Relações Exteriores
Esplanada dos Ministérios - Bloco H
Palácio Itamaraty - Térreo
CEP: 70.170-900
Brasília – DF

Along with the letter, the correspondent must attach:

- Accreditation form filled out from the MRE website
- Two recent 3x4 cm photos
- A declaration of whether or not they have any dependents
- A copy of the permanent visa or VITEM VI (temporary visa that can be granted to foreigners entering Brazil as news correspondents)
- A copy of their passport pages with personal data
- A copy of the National Registry of Foreigners (RNE) or protocol (provided by the Federal Police)

In the event of renewal, which occurs every two years, all the documents cited must be gathered again, as well as the expired registration. If a duplicate copy is required, a copy of the police report must be presented.
