Natural resources, sustainability and new Frontiers
Investments in human resources, systematized funding policies, and regulatory frameworks to support the sector have hoisted Brazil to the rank of distinction in science, technology and innovation in strategic areas like energy, agribusiness, and the environment. The country’s natural resources are an important
asset for developing the innovation system, a key pillar of which is sustainability. The country also invests in two of the most promising frontiers - biotechnology and nanotechnology - and approved embryonic stem cell research in May 2008. In addition to actions at national level, Brazil has undertaken to transfer technology to and cooperate with African countries, so as to assist the Continent in achieving food security and ensuring the full health of its populations.
