Widening the borders of school

Brazilian education has made significant improvements in its indicators. School Census of 2010 indicated 51.5 million students enrolled in public and private basic education in the country. Out of this total, 85.4% go to public schools. 

There has been an increase in high school applications, with 20,515 new students, totaling 8,357,675. 31 million are enrolled in primary schools, being 16.7 million in the first grades and 14.2 million in the final grades. In professional education numbers have also risen and the segment reached 1,140,388 applications.

In 2010, investments in education were 5% of the GDP. One of the results of this value can be seen in illiteracy rates, which have dropped in the last years.

Another interesting result shows that over 80 thousand information technology labs have been implemented in schools through the ProInfo program. In high school, 94.3% of public schools have access to the internet, and in primary education it is offered in 39% of the schools in the first grades and in 70% of the schools in the final grades.
