Brazil in Numbers
Infrastructure
Basis for Growth
Investments in transportation, power generation, sanitation, housing and water resources are basic for the development of Brazil. With the Growth Acceleration Program (PAC), infrastructure projects have benefitted the entire country, whether for its economic or social impact.
If on the one hand recent discoveries of Pre-salt and natural gas reserves, as well as investments in bio-fuels and ethanol point to the country’s huge energetic potential, on the other hand there is still much to be done in order to surpass inequalities. As for sewage collection, for example, only 43.2% of the population counts on the service.
Investments in infrastructure in Brazil are still little, ranging between 2% and 2.5% of the GDP. The public sector employs a little over 1% of the GDP in infrastructure, and the private sector, 2%.
