Rio de Janeiro (3 July 2014) - The João Saldanha Open Media Centre (OMC) in Rio de Janeiro is taking journalists to meet Zico, Brazilian football idol, who will be attending the final match of the Social Cup at the Marina da Glória on Thursday, 10 July.
The Social Cup is a tournament organized in partnership with Zico 10, an initiative started by the former player. It drew inspiration from the official FIFA World Cup. In the tournament, eight communities in Rio de Janeiro, each with a team of their own children and adolescents, will compete in an indoor football championship at a pitch set up at the Marina da Glória. Each community has taken the uniform of one of the eight FIFA World Cup-winning countries: France (Vidigal), Brazil (Providência), England (Rocinha), Spain (Dona Marta), Italy (Andaraí), Argentina (São Carlos), Uruguay (Alto) and Germany (Cidade de Deus).
After four days of matches, the top two teams will play for the title, with Zico in attendance. After the match, the former star of Flamengo and of the Seleção Brasileira will host a press conference on site.
